So yesterday afternoon the order from Sanford Healthcare Accessories, that they had no idea when it would arrive, showed up at my door. Thank God! I now have the supplies I need. I still haven't figured out how to make this all work. Do people carry a duffel bag everywhere they go?
I have been researching other peoples problems on ostomy chat sites. (Part of the reason I know I wasn't told about this ahead of time also--because I am anal and have to study everything!) Most people don't get the leaking under control for at least 2 months. It also seems like everyone is weak for at least that long too. Again, how do people do this?
I have to get back to work. We have some savings but not much. For the most part we are a paycheck to paycheck family. I had partial pay for the first week of November. After that all of my PTO and short term disability is used up. I am without income at all now.
As for the kick in the teeth, Jim called me this morning to let me know that Obama-care got ahold of our insurance and things were changing. We have always liked his plan because it costs the same as mine, covered everything mine did plus some and came with dental and eye. I haven't read it yet, but according to Jim it's ugly and expensive. And goes into effect Jan 1, 2015. Just before my next surgery. The one that will have new co-pays and deductibles along with no savings to help pay for it.
I think the thing I am so upset and bitter about is the lie. Never in my one appointment was an ileostomy discussed. When I woke up with it and the nurses told me what it was, I had never heard the word! We discussed a colostomy bag during my appointment on the off chance that the surgery didn't go as planned. That and this are worlds apart as far as recovering. I know that now. If you've ever had surgery then you are aware that the first day or two and sometimes up to a few weeks you are in a daze of sorts. You can't concentrate or really focus. It's very frustrating. I had to wait for all of that to go away before I could even begin to research an ileostomy and find out that how I feel seems to be the norm for most people. It would have been nice to have been forewarned. Not 2 weeks after.
My amazing niece picked up some 7-up for me yesterday. The nausea is back to coming and going. Relief! At least a little. I guess I will take what I get.
Thanksgiving is a few days away. Jim may have to work but we aren't eating till late because we have others that work also. Grandma and Grandpa Roesler are hosting. I couldn't be more thankful. I do love my family here.
