Getting stronger every day

It's Sunday again.  I have had the best week!  On New Year's Eve my oldest daughter Erin surprised me by walking through my front door.  She is here till Tuesday!! I couldn't believe it!!  Jim had tickets for the Fargo force hockey game and was anal about Rylee being home and that we all had to be here all day.  Now I know why.  We got to go to the hockey game as a family like we used to years ago.  It was nice!  The downfall for me was we were sitting in what I like to call the pit.  It is my least favorite place to sit, especially with kids, because it is basically a bar and the crowd is 20 somethings and they get a little rowdy.  It is maybe 50 steps back up to the concourse.  I didn't realize until that very moment that I can't do stairs.  I can do maybe 10 and then I need a railing on both sides so I can pull myself with my arms.  I was pretty sure I was gonna need a break when Jim saw a friend and stopped to chat.  Thank God!  I got my break!  I spent the rest of New Years Eve sitting around the table with my girls watching TV.  It was a good night.

On New Years Day we met up with Roy and Stacy and their twin girls, my God daughters, for a late lunch or early supper.  We had fun and decided that we would all go to the girls hockey game the following night.  So Friday rolls around and we head for the coliseum to watch hockey.   We get there and damn if my group of friends aren't about 15 bleachers up.  No railing. Ugh!  I almost didn't make it.  Stacy and Sharon had to boost me up the last one.  So embarrassing!  But the girls won 5-0!  It was Sydney's first shut out!

Yesterday Rylee had to work her basketball teams games and we met up with Jim's sister and her family for Bingo. It was fun.  I even had a drink.  First one in over 4 months!  But it was stronger than I would have liked and it took me forever to finish it.  Oh well.

Today I have gotten a few loads of laundry done and we are waiting for some friends to pop over and visit with Erin before the girls head to the mall for a few hours.  Not sure what the rest of the day will bring.  I know I need to grab a few groceries.  After that, who knows.

I know one thing for sure.  Having Erin home has made me more active. I did run into one complication. When I left the hospital, I was a little puffy and swollen from all the fluids.  I didn't have any knuckles and my feet were a little round.  By Thursday, I couldn't get shoes on and by Thurs night they were HUGE and hurt.  I went to bed with them propped up, but probably not high enough.  I sent my doctor an email the next morning and his nurse called me and let me know that I had an appointment for an ultrasound to check for blood clots and lab work to check to see if my liver and kidneys were functioning.  The girls took me for my tests. They all came back fine.  Whew!  So my nurse called back and said it all looked good and that I needed to elevate at all times.  So I did and by Sat afternoon the swelling had gone down enough I could get shoes on. They look pretty good right now.  I love that this doctor didn't say "you have an appointment on Thurs.  You'll be fine until then"  like the other one always did,.

I go back to work tomorrow!  It's been 9 weeks and I can't believe how fortunate I am to have an employer who held my job for me through this whole ordeal!  I really am blessed!  I am nervous and excited.  So much has probably changed and I am going to be tired.  I hope I can keep up.  I am going to try to take it slow and probably only work half days the first part of the week and, hopefully, work up into full days by the end of the week.

I have an appointment on Thursday to get my staples out.  I have 6 and it is scheduled for  my lunch hour so I want to try to work the full day that day.  Wish me luck everyone!!
