Last week I had made a conscious decision to start working on my WiiFit again for toning. My coworker had even given me her Wii Fit Plus. I had charged all the batteries, and was all ready to go. Then on Wed, right before I ran out the door to take my daughter to confirmation, I took the dogs out. That is when my world stopped turning.
Cash, an Olde English Bulldogge who weighs 125, saw someone on the sidewalk and got startled. He bolted toward the sidewalk barking and yanked me backwards via the leash and my arm. I landed on the ground and felt and heard my right hip/buttock crunch. The pain was excruciating! I was able to get Cash to sit which kept him from pulling me across the yard. I have a hip replacement on that side and I was sure that it had broke. I somehow was able to roll onto my knees and elbows. From that vantage point, I could see my phone directly in front of my face. It had popped out of my pocket. I grabbed it and called my daughter in the house. She came tearing out and I talked her into leaving me and getting the dogs inside. I had just gotten off the phone with my husband before going out so I knew that he would be home in 10-15 min. Ry came back out and helped me up.
So much pain!!!! I was crying uncontrollably, could barely breathe! I have never had pain like this in my life. I cannot imagine what was going through my daughters mind. I don't know how I would handle seeing my mom like that! I could not pull myself together no matter how I tried.
At this point I am up, but the house is a good 25 feet away and my right leg is useless. I am going nowhere. Ry, being a trooper, put her arm around me and proceeded to assist me back towards the house. Yes, the smart pre-teen did ask if she should call an ambulance. Her stubborn mother said no, dad was on his way.
Ry got me through the back door as her dad was coming through the front door. He came down, got me crutches, and decided we were going straight to the ER. It took me a few min to get up the steps and into the car but we checked into ER only 35 minutes after the fall. They immediately started an IV and gave me morphine for the pain. X-rays followed. The ER doc came in and told me there was nothing wrong with the hip. Still having excruciating pain so I'm thinking she's wrong. She asks if she can examine me and moves my right leg. I go through the roof with the pain! She gently lets go and says she is going to go take another look. She came back to let me know that she had ordered additional xrays. That is when they finally saw that I had 2 fractures in my pelvic bone. One up high in the back that should heal well and another down toward the groin area that had separated far enough it looked like I could lay my pinky in it! I am being admitted.
It is now 12:30 in the morning. They are putting me in a room. Every movement is killing me! There is no comfort. Laying hurts, sitting hurts, everything hurts. The staff is fantastic and I am there for the next 4 days for what they call pain management. Basically, that came down to me taking myself off pain killers because I have a weird reaction to them where they make the pain worse instead of dulling it. So I take Tylenol and Aleve.
I have been home for 3 days now. I sleep a lot. Everything makes me tired. I have little to no appetite but am managing to eat 3 healthy meals a day. I have lost more weight. I am down another 4 or 5 lbs. Gonna be awhile before I am able to go see my dietitian or dr as I am on modified bed rest.
The WiiFit will have to wait. I need to heal and teach myself to walk again. I will continue to eat healthy and try to do what I can.
Be grateful for what you have. You never know when it will be taken away.
